The Calgary Sews Meetup Group meets in the beautiful studio space located in My Sewing Room on Macleod Trail in Calgary. There is plenty of parking, and the store is in close proximity to the Heritage LRT Station. We’re very grateful to have the opportunity to use this space! Thank you, Anne and My Sewing Room!
Who are our members?
Our focus is on garment sewing although many of our members also sew bags and quilt. You don’t need to be an expert or even very experienced in sewing. Some have been sewing for a few months, others for decades.
What happens at our Meetups
Every Meetup has a topic for conversation or education, Show and Tell (show us what you’ve made or what you’re working on), and plenty of time for socialising. Here are some of the topics that have been discussed or will be in the future:

- Fitting (either learning to fit or helping each other fit)
- Advanced sewing techniques (hand stitching, hemming, catch-stitching, couture techniques, etc.)

- Pattern Grading
- Creative techniques (fabric painting, dyeing, embroidery, Sashiko)
- Refashioning & Thrifting
- Pattern Swaps and Fabric Swaps
- Scrapbusting & Options for using up scrap plus less wasteful sewing
- Learning how to photograph your makes for self-fitting or social media
- Sew-In (a day of sewing together, similar to Open Studios)

Would you like to share your knowledge?
If you have a skill or knowledge to share, volunteer to lead a session! Even if you don’t have something that you can teach, you can lead one of the sessions and guide the conversation.
