In this post, we share five quick holiday projects that are recommended by our members. Some are for decor, others are gifts. None require great sewing skills!
These aren’t for just Christmas or December holidays. Use different themed or coloured fabrics for birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Easter, summer holidays, Canada Day, etc.
Gift Bags
Wrapping paper is pretty but it’s expensive and wasteful. This year, make some gift bags with bits of fabric scrap! Bonus: those who hate wrapping gifts can put something in the bag, tie the ribbon, and be done!
Pat suggests using fabric that has some meaning to the recipient. Her adult children still love receiving their gifts in fabric that matched their childhood pyjamas!
Bowl Cozies
Mona is making up a couple of these for her husband. No more burned fingers or soaked oven mitts when pulling a bowl of hot soup from the microwave.
If you’re planning to use these in the microwave, use 100% cotton fabric and 100% cotton batting so prevent burning.
Danish Stars
Janine has made dozens and dozens of these. They make quick tree ornaments, and are also a nice replacement for a bow on a package.
10-Minute Table Runner

This project is from Saf-T-Pockets and it’s another favourite of Janine’s. She has made these for Christmas, winter decor (snowflakes), and Thanksgiving. It can be lengthened or shortened to fit your space. If you use Insul-Bright heat resistant batting, the runner can take the place of trivets or hot plates.
Big asterisk that this is probably NOT a 10-minute project. Maybe an hour or two?
Five-Minute Coin Purse
Yasmeen recommends this quick project! Great scrap buster and she confirmed that it is fast to make.
