Share the Sewing Love ❤️
This year, we’re inviting Frocktails attendees to help us support the Centre for Newcomers, an organisation that offers sewing classes to people who are new to Canada as they build skills, confidence, and community.
If you’d like to take part, please bring along one or two small sewing notions to donate. Ideas include tape measures, seam rippers, pins, pin cushions, fabric clips, chalk markers, point turners, hand sewing needles, thimbles, or similar small tools.
Please don’t bring fabric or larger items. We’re hoping to collect practical sewing tools that are in like-new condition— something you would happily give to a friend.
This is entirely optional, but it’s a lovely opportunity for our sewing community to help others as they begin (or continue) their own sewing journey. Thank you for helping us share the sewing love.
FAQs
About Frocktails and What to Wear
| What is Frocktails? | Frocktails is a cocktail party for people who love to sew. |
| Do I have to wear something I’ve made? | No. While most attendees choose to wear at least one handmade garment, it’s not required. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re wearing me-made, ready-to-wear, or a combination of both. |
| Can I come on my own? | Definitely. Many people attend on their own and leave with new sewing friends. It’s a very welcoming community. |
| I’m a beginner. Will I fit in? | Absolutely! Frocktails welcomes sewists of every skill level. |
| Can I bring a friend who doesn’t sew? | Yes. Those who don’t sew are welcome! (Maybe we’ll inspire them to start sewing.) |
| I sew quilts. Can I come? | Yes, of course! |
| What should I wear? | There is no dress code. We encourage everyone to wear something they love – something that makes you sparkle, whether that’s on the inside or outside! |
| Do I have to wear a cocktail dress? | No. In Calgary, dressing up can mean a cocktail dress, a ballgown, a jacket and trousers, or even your favourite pair of jeans. Wear whatever makes you feel confident and reflects your personal style. |
| Can I wear a Halloween Costume? | Halloween is the next weekend and if you have put blood, sweat, and tears into crafting your own costume or fancy dress outfit, please wear it. |
| Can I wear a holiday party outfit? | Please do. So many of us create things for holiday parties and we don’t have enough opportunities to wear them. |
Tickets & What’s Included
| What does a ticket cost? | Tickets are $75.00 per person (unchanged from 2025). |

| Are tickets re-fundable? | Tickets are non-refundable. If you’re unable to attend, you may transfer your ticket to someone else. Please contact us so we can update the attendee information. If tickets are sold-out, Calgary Sews will keep a waiting list and will attempt to connect you with a potential buyer for your ticket. |

How did Frocktails Start?
Frocktails is a social event for people who sew their own clothing. The first Frocktails took place in Melbourne, Australia in 2013. Now, there are Frocktails events around the world! At its heart, Frocktails is a party — complete with drinks, music, and mingling — but with a creative twist: attendees are encouraged to wear something they’ve made themselves.
